The easiest and fastest way to report a power or fiber outage, text "Outage" to 888-579-2726 anytime, day or night.  Be sure to have your address ready.

New Outage Map & Reporting System Now Live for HMP&L
Henderson Municipal Power & Light (HMP&L) has launched a new way for customers to report power and fiber outages and stay informed when the power goes out. The system, called Hometown Grid, is now live and makes it easier than ever to report issues and receive real-time updates—no app or login required.

Customers can report an outage at any time by simply texting or calling 888-579-2726. The system automatically confirms the report and asks a few quick follow-up questions to help utility crews pinpoint the issue. Outages are shown on a public map in real time, so residents can see where issues are occurring and follow the progress as updates come in.

Hometown Grid was designed specifically for local utilities and is already in use by cities across the region. By improving how outage information is collected and shared, the system helps ensure that no report gets overlooked while keeping customers connected throughout the process.

Henderson Municipal Power & Light (HMP&L) has earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)® designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service.

The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. HMP&L joins more than 275 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation.

WHAT TO DO DURING AN OUTAGE​
  • Report Outage – Text "Outage" to HMP&L (888.579.2726) to report a power or internet outage.  Once you send an outage report via text, you will receive updates on your outage and be able to report any additional information about your outage, including tree limb issues, damage to service drops, or other hazards.
  • If you have access to a working internet connection with a smartphone, tablet or computer, updated information will be available on our Twitter feed (@HendersonHMPL) and Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/p/Henderson-Municipal-Power-Light-100054401012512/) during a major outage.  A live outage map is also available on our website.
  • Do not use gasoline-powered machinery, such as generators in any enclosed space; toxic fumes kill! Operate generators outdoors. Plug appliances directly into the generator using heavy duty, properly grounded extension cords that aren’t worn or frayed.
  • Do not use charcoal grills indoors. Dangerous carbon monoxide generated from them and other fuel-burning devices can and do kill people every year.
  • Do not use a gas range or oven for room heating. A fuel-burning heater, such as a kerosene heater, requires plenty of ventilation to prevent buildup of harmful fumes. Place heaters on a hard, stable surface away from flammable materials. Never leave children or pets alone when using a portable heater.
  • Turn off lights and appliances, including your furnace, and unplug sensitive electronic devices, like computers to avoid a circuit overload when power is restored. Leave one light switch on so you’ll know when service returns.
  • Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed; open them only when necessary. Food will usually stay frozen for 36-48 hours in a fully loaded freezer if you keep the door closed. A half-full freezer will generally keep food frozen for 24 hours.
  • If driving and traffic signals are out, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
